Important Things to Know about Nevada Nurse Licenses

NV Licensure by Endorsement

Process

Permanent License

  1. Apply online on the portal and pay the fee. The process is the same for RNs and LPNs. You may not send documents to the BON before you have created your portal account.
  2. You must have a valid US Social Security number or taxpayer ID number.
  3. Submit a copy of your diploma or a copy of an official transcript issued directly from the registrar of your school to the student or to the Board. Your nursing program may send official transcripts by mail or email electronic transcripts to nursingboard@nsbn.state.nv.us. You must have graduated from a nursing program that has been accredited by a nationally recognized association authorized by law to accredit schools of nursing and have been awarded a degree/diploma in nursing to qualify for licensure in Nevada.
  4. Request verification of licensure via Nursys from your original state of licensure. If this state does not participate in Nursys, you will need to contact that state's BON and request verification be sent to the Nevada BON via the Verification of Licensure form.
  5. Provide a background check with fingerprints. Fingerprinting instructions can be found here. Due to various factors, it may take up to 4 months for the Board to receive the official fingerprint results from the Department of Public Safety and FBI; therefore, you are strongly encouraged to fingerprint immediately.
  6. Submit any additional documentation if you have a criminal conviction or discipline against your nursing license.
  7. If you graduated from an international nursing program, click here for more information.

Temporary License

  1. Temporary licenses are offered as a courtesy in some cases. Once you've submitted your initial application Board staff will determine if you are eligible for a one-time temporary license.
  2. Temporary permits are valid for six months and cannot be extended or renewed. A temporary license may not be extended or reissued.
  3. Please allow approximately one week for your application to be processed, then you may check your nurse portal account for updates regarding the status of your application and temporary license.
